Spring is upon us! And if you’re anything like me, you start to look around your house, as the warm light shines in, and think, “Gah! This place is a wreck!” after the winter.
I never understood why my mom used to get excited about Spring Cleaning… until I had a house of my own. Now, I love a reason to de-clutter and get a fresh start. Pinterest, my favorite place for digital inspiration, is bursting at the seams right now with so many wonderful ideas that will help us all do just that. Here are a few of my favorites:
Over the winter, we added a home office and while the walls are up and painted, it’s still lacking any sort of structure. The purpose of the 10×10 room is to give my husband and I both a place for our computers, and a place to work from home – which we both do 3-5 days a week. We also need room for the kids to have a small space in it so they aren’t totally neglected when we’re working on a deadline. On top of all that, I want a craft/sewing space.
Right… I said it’s 10 FEET by 10 FEET with a tiny closet. I would think my demands are impossible if I hadn’t seen this clever idea to turn a closet into a sewing/craft area. This is SO happening. I hope my husband didn’t think he’d actually get to store anything of his in there.

Our family room has this odd nook to the side of the fireplace that’s just begging for something other than my kid’s random toys to be there. We could use a little extra seating, but some storage would be nice, too. When I saw this idea, I could totally envision it in that space. I can easily have my husband build a simple base, and then we can top it with an old crib mattress.
I mean, BRILLIANT, right?

Pinterest is always great for showing you how to use mundane items that WOW the heck out of you with their non-traditional uses for organization, like the magazine box turned hairdryer storage:

Or using wire to store wrapping paper on the ceiling and free up floor space:

And finally, I love finding free printables on Pinterest that will help me label and sort items in my home.

Now, here’s the most important part about using Pinterest to help you organize your house: You MUST actually stop pinning, step away from the computer, and physically get to work if you want any of those ideas to help you. Or, you can just be like me, and escape to your computer to stare at Pinterest anytime you are tired of seeing how cluttered your house is. It’s so peaceful on there.
