Below is a list of the “Top 5 Back-to-School Resolutions” every mom needs to know. Do any of these make your list?
.) Vow to make lunches the night before. At our house, we tackle this project while cooking dinner. It’s all about multi-tasking. The kids are usually around so they can pipe up with preferences. As a confessed neat freak, I appreciate that I don’t have to mess up the kitchen twice (dinner and then lunch prep). And there’s more good news–I’m more likely to throw in the good stuff–veggies, fresh fruit, etc. and skip processed/packaged food since I am already in the rinsing and slicing mode.
.) Break out of your mom uniform. If you are lucky enough to attend a school with a uniform, you might have gotten into a bad habit of dressing in a similar fashion. You know what I mean. Jeans + t-shirt + flats = done. I’m not asking you to put on the Manolos and Prada, but how about adding a fun metallic eternity scarf, pair of tribal inspired earrings or funky leopard flats to break out of your rut? You’ll be surprised at how good it makes you feel!
.) Pay attention to your health. Now that the kiddos are back on a regular schedule it’s time to book that mammogram, teeth cleaning or visit to the chiropractor. Just like a highly paid athlete, moms can’t afford to be sidelined.
.) Work it out mama. Enough of the excuses–it’s too hot, no time, no motivation. Now is the perfect time. Need some ideas? Head out for a power walk or run after bus pickup. Sign your child up for swim classes at the local Y and jump into the adult lane for laps while your kid learns the basics from an instructor. Get a group of moms together and hire a trainer for a 3x week session. Shoot for a little exercise a day and get creative about making fitness part of your daily routine.
.) Reconnect with the girls. Plan a back-to-school girl’s night out to celebrate the beginning of another successful year. Too many of us busy moms neglect our friendships–but we all need time away from the family now and then to kick up our heels and feel like girls again. Toast to your newfound commitment to organization and health!
